General

When is Link launching?

Link launches in Cape Town on 1 December, then rolls out city by city across South Africa’s other major metros. Download the rider app or the driver app and we’ll tell you the moment we go live near you.

Where does Link operate?

Cape Town first, from 1 December. Other South African cities follow, one at a time.

Who is behind Link?

Link is operated by LNK Mobility (Pty) Ltd, part of Bantu Technologies Group, a Cape Town company building a ride platform for South African riders and drivers.

For riders

How do Link Credits work?

You earn 10% of the fare back in Link Credits on every completed trip, worked out after the R6 booking fee, up to R500 a month. An R86 trip earns R8. Once you have R20 or more, you can turn your credits into a voucher code for Pick n Pay or Checkers.

Do credits expire?

Your credits stay in your account while it’s open. A voucher code you redeem them into can expire, and its expiry date is shown with the code. Credits can’t be withdrawn as cash, and they have no value once an account is closed, so redeem them first.

How do I pay for rides?

By card or cash, whichever you choose in the app. Every trip carries a flat R6 booking fee and there’s no surge pricing. Card payments are handled by a PCI-DSS certified payment processor, and we never see or store your full card number.

For drivers

What is the Day Pass?

A flat R100 for each day you complete at least one trip, instead of commission. No trips, no charge. And it’s never more than you earned that day: finish one short trip earning R38 and the pass costs R38. You keep 90% of every fare; the other 10% goes back to your rider as Link Credits. The earnings calculator shows how that compares with commission.

When do I get paid?

Your earnings build up in the app, where you can see every trip and every fee. You can request a payout to your bank once your balance reaches R300, with 24 hours between payouts.

What do I need to sign up?

A valid South African driving licence, a Professional Driving Permit (PrDP), an operating licence for the service you provide, and a roadworthy certificate and insurance for your vehicle. A person on our team checks every document before you go online.

Safety and privacy

What safety features are there?

Every driver’s documents are checked by a person. Your trip is tracked from pickup to drop-off and you can share it, a four-digit PIN starts the trip, and both apps have an emergency button that alerts our safety team. See how safety works.

What do you do with my data?

We use it to run your trips, keep you safe, pay drivers and issue credits, and we don’t sell it. Our privacy policy sets out the detail, including your rights and how to ask for a copy of your data. Questions go to privacy@getlink.co.za.
